Compassion Advocate & November Booth

This fall I became a Compassion Advocate for Compassion International. It is an opportunity to reach out and help children in poverty in addition to the children we sponsor as a family. We find the ministry to be very humbling and fulfilling. World Missions are so overwhelming but when you can make a difference for one child it really brings missions home in a personal way. It is also a great way to teach children about giving to others who are less fortunate. As an Advocate I initiate sponsor-generating activities, volunteer at concerts and festivals, and keep abreast of training and ministry opportunities through Compassion.

Today Alex and I had the opportunity to share Compassion at the First Baptist Church’s Mission Fair. There were about 20 mission booths set up and church members who were interested visited after each service. Although the traffic was pretty good in the basement I discovered early on through sharing the ministry that the church is heavily involved with sponsoring children via another ministry that only operates in Africa and that Compassion was no longer a prominent mission for the church in general. We were there from 7:30 till about 1:00 p.m. We were grateful for the opportunity to share with those that stopped by our booth to visit but had hoped for more sponsorships.

We did come home with quite a few packets for children who are in need of sponsorship. Before I send them back to Compassion I thought I would offer them up to friends and family first. The children are from all over the world. Currently we personally sponsor children in India and Guatemala. Below is a little information on the cost of sponsorship. What is most rewarding is the relationship you form with the child through letters and pictures. Compassion even offers sponsor tours each year.

A tax-deductible contribution of just $38 a month connects your child with a loving, church-based child sponsorship program that provides:

· Food and clean water
· Medical care
· Educational opportunities
· Important life-skills training
· Most important of all, your sponsored child will hear about Jesus Christ and be encouraged to develop a lifelong relationship with God.

If you and your family are interested in sponsoring a child let me know and I will mail or drop off a packet to you. I can review which children I do have available for sponsorship (girls/boys, ages, countries they are from etc.). I do plan on mailing the packets back to Compassion at the beginning of next week so other Advocates can keep working on sponsorships for these children. Thank you for your sponsorship consideration.

God Bless! Kelly & Alex
