Last night Alex and I volunteered with Compassion at the Nampa Church of the Nazarene who was sponsoring a Gospel music concert featuring The Hoppers. Although I do not normally listen to gospel music I will be the first to say that they put on a great show. Dean Hopper ended up being our Compassion contact. At first we didn’t even realize he was one of the singers until we put two and two together and realized that he was on the giant poster behind their CD table. He was such a nice appreciative man of our efforts on behalf of Compassion. Dean's wife, Kim, is an incredible singer and we really enjoyed her vocal range and abilities. They also had an opening quartet named The Liberty Quartet. They are actually a local group that we had never heard of before.
From what I could tell we may have been The Hoppers last tour stop and that left us with a lot less Compassion packets than they had originally started with. We manned the table before the concert, after the concert and during intermission. We also handed out packets in the auditorium after Dean shared with the audience his involvement with Compassion. All and all we facilitated 10 sponsorships and had about 15 additional packets disappear. We are hoping that those packets made their way home with potential sponsors. We did search the entire auditorium for any stray packets that may have been left behind after the concert. By the time Alex and I drove back to Boise last night it was after 11 p.m. I am pretty tired this morning but as always it was wonderful to see individuals and families open their hearts and homes to the ministry of Compassion.
The next event we will be volunteering at for Compassion is Acquire the Fire on March 5th and 6th. Alex will actually be attending the event for the three days and I will be manning the table Friday night and Saturday morning.
